The interactive conference with networking dinner
PM1 Summit 2024
27 – 28 JUN 2024 | HOTEL KLINGENSTEIN, ULM
Guiding topic: ‘Product Strategy Meets Business Innovation’
In today’s fast-paced and dynamic business world, standing still is not an option. Companies that want to be successful must constantly reinvent themselves and adapt their strategies to keep pace with changing market conditions. As product managers, we are often faced with the challenge of operating within the strategic framework set by the company. However, in times of dwindling competitiveness, it is increasingly important to question these frameworks and find innovative ways to successfully position products on the market.
At our PM1 Summit 2024, we have therefore made the topic ‘Product Strategy meets Business Innovation’ the guiding theme and look forward to your experience reports, success and failure stories and the interactive exchange within the PM1 community.
This event is German-speaking only.

The guiding topic 2024: Product strategy meets business innovation
Times are and remain dynamic and anyone who wants to be or remain successful on the market must constantly reinvent and redefine themselves. As product managers, we often operate within a strategic framework set by the company. However, dwindling competitiveness at product level is increasingly forcing us as product managers to question this framework.
The PM1 Summit 2024 is dedicated to precisely this topic. With the guiding topic ‘Product strategy meets business innovation’, we want to show which innovative approaches we can use to regain the upper hand when it comes to competitiveness. We are thinking about the following aspects, among others
- Business model alteration: Change or adaptation of the business model, e.g. towards a fee-per-use, subscription model or operator model
- Service as a business: bundling products and services into an overall service offering that enables a new market positioning
- Value-based pricing: Implementing value-based pricing and the requirements that must be met for this to work
- Total cost of ownership approach: moving away from the machine price towards a life cycle approach and restoring competitiveness
- Blue Ocean Strategy: Shifting the product range and eliminating comparability to increase competitiveness and as the basis for value-based pricing
- Portfolio digitalisation: digitalisation as an enabler for new, cost-efficient and competitive service bundles
- Business process digitalisation: added value for the customer through digitalisation of business processes
- And and and …

Blue ocean strategies for railway infrastructure surveillance
Success story
Lewis Gill
Principle product manager
KONUX
Railway is one of the oldest modes of transport and essential to fight climate change. But today’s system is plagued by high costs, declining availability and limited capacity. While railway is traditionally risk averse, slow to technology adaption and complex, KONUX succeed by using a new business model and a true category leader. This made KONUX the first start-up to win a European public tender in rail and the first to offer SaaS for railway infrastructure predictive maintenance. In this presentation KONUX describes their approach and what they learned along the way.

SICK is a leading manufacturer of sensors and sensor systems with sales companies and distributors in over 50 countries. Driven by digitalisation and growing customer requirements, SICK is increasingly developing into a system provider. However, traditionally established and efficient processes suddenly no longer work and must be rethought and reestablished internationally in a network of several thousand employees. The presentation shows how such ‘open-heart surgery’ can succeed.

Exploiting potential with a customer-centric bundle strategy
Interim project report
Harald Kiesel
Strategic Product Manager
SKAN AG
Customers’ pain points do not always lie solely in the application of the products, but often in upstream and downstream or overlapping challenges. With a bundle strategy centred on the operator, SKAN brings together all the necessary services for commissioning, maintenance, (re-)certification and financing with the actual product, so that the operator only has to worry about the actual use of the isolator. This allows SKAN to better utilise the potential of its own service capabilities and tap into new customer segments.
