Training curriculum

The product management masterclass in hybrid format comrises 2 online-live modules (6x 0.6 days) and 1 face-to-face module (2 days).

On-Boarding

During the onboarding phase, you will enter the training prepared with all other participants and with a homogeneous basic knowledge and reference picture for effective product management. In addition, you will select relevant topics from practice for application in outcome-based training.

Session 1 The agility value promise

We start with an introduction to the agile world and answer the following key questions: What does agility actually mean? When does agility make sense? What are the framework conditions for agility? What agility concepts are there and for whom are they suitable? How does agility in the company differ from agility in product management? At the end of the session, you will have a comprehensive overview and be able to orient yourself in the agile world.

Session 2 Agility in product management

In this session, we will focus on what exactly agility means in product management. We will build on our PM role model and process navigator and examine which agile methods can inspire product management.

We look at the differences between product and business development, and between inside-out vs. outside-in. We show the similarities and differences between PM, business development and innovation management and how agility influences them.

Session 3 Efficiency tools in product management

In the end, agility always starts with the individual themselves. What can I do as an individual product manager to become more agile and also more efficient? The use of software tools and artificial intelligence has increased enormously in recent years.

But which tools really help? How and when can I use tools like ChatGPT without hesitation? And how can I organize my own work in an agile way? In this session, we will look at specific use cases that will really help you as a product manager.

Session 4 Ideation und customer centricity

Putting the customer at the center of “finding” new products is a core aspect of agility. It is about shaping, kneading, discarding, reinventing and validating ideas in the so-called “ideation” phase using the shortest possible feedback cycles.

The design thinking process with the customer journey, structured customer interviews with the funnel technique and other creativity techniques are central components that are taught in this session.

Session 5 Agile product development

If the time-to-market is getting longer and longer and the product then fails to meet customer requirements, something has gone very wrong. Agile product development promises a remedy and provides methods for faster and more accurate development.

Many companies are already working with these methods, especially in the area of software development. In this session, we will first provide an in-depth overview of the main approaches such as SCRUM and agile frameworks such as SAFe. We will then look at the role of the product manager, how they differ from the product owner and how collaboration works.

Session 6 Product design and UX

An appealing product design and user interface are a key factor for product market success. But as a product manager, how do I actually assess the quality of a UX design? What makes a product design a strong product design? And how can I review different design options in an agile way?

In this session, we will dive into the world of industrial and UX designers and get the basics to better evaluate, improve and manage the design aspects of our products.

Session 7 Agile business innovation

Every product needs a business framework. In many cases, this is already set. But sometimes it can make sense to change the business model. Or entering a completely new market requires parallel business development.

In this session, we will show which business models actually exist in the industrial sector and how they can be quickly modeled and compared using Business Model Canvas. Using the lean start-up approach, we will show you how to test the critical assumptions before you invest too much.

Session 8 Product digitalization

Digitalization is not just a technical phenomenon, but above all an enabler for new business models. Processes that were previously very costly to map can now be implemented with a fraction of the effort.

In this session, we will look at the various patterns that can be used to digitize products. We will also look at the approaches that artificial intelligence offers to improve or rethink products.

Session 9 Alternative pricing-models

How do you actually find out the willingness to pay in a new market in an agile way? Cost-plus is still the most widespread pricing model in the industrial and B2B sectors. But there are plenty of alternative pricing models: Value-Based-Pricing, Total Cost of Ownership, Price-Bundling, Individualized Pricing, etc. However, these are often linked to certain prerequisites in order for them to work.

In this session, we will break down the different approaches, identify the areas of application and the respective advantages and disadvantages.

Session 10 Strategic business partnerships and cooperations

You can’t and don’t have to be able to do everything yourself. Strategic partnerships and collaborations are an agile approach to providing the necessary expertise, products and sales channels for tapping into new markets faster and better.

However, certain framework conditions need to be created in order for collaborations to succeed. In this session, we will show you what is important when selecting, setting up and managing a strategic cooperation.
